Education

The United States is an Empire. We live in an empire where education is shoved onto everyone but is made nearly impossible. For example everyone “must” go to college for a better future. The thing is who even created that standard. In my opinion it is all just a tactic to make money. Getting into college itself is hard enough. You have to have a 4.0, AP classes, extracurricular activities, close to perfect test scores and much more.. Even if you do all of the above you're not even guaranteed acceptance into the college of your choice. It seems as if colleges put names in a hat and then pick out names. The reason I say that is because being at UC Irvine and talking to people i have met its upsetting to know that some people here had half of the grades I did and did little to no activities. Sometimes it makes me lose faith in our education system. However, I do believe in getting an education, I just believe that the system needs to be changed. College should be about only taking classes that will teach you things for your major not having to take two years worth of GEs even though in high school we already take 4 years of GEs. I think college institutions do this to be able to make more money off of students. It is also absolutely ridiculous that these universities are public yet they cost $30,000 plus to attend each year. This Empire of an education system in the United States has gone on for many years but recently students have started to realize the problems. Students in today's generation are becoming activists for what they believe in which is a better education system. However, we are far from becoming better especially with our current president and his administration. Especially when Betsy Devos is the secretary of education and the fact that she nor the president believe in our public education system.
